Description
A leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits bronchoconstriction by blocking the inflammatory response in the airways.
Prophylaxis of asthma
• Child 6 months–5 years: 4 mg once daily in the evening.
• 6–14 years: 5 mg once daily in the evening.
• Adult and child over 15 years: 10 mg once daily in the evening.
Seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients with asthma
• Adult and child over 15 years: 10 mg once daily in the evening.
Indications
For use in the management of exercise induced asthma and symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients with asthma.
Contraindications
Advised to avoid during pregnancy and breast feeding. However, if a person has significant improvement in their asthma from this medication prior to becoming pregnant they can continue.
